Jim Neumann

Speaker: Jim Neumann, Partner, Chief Investment Officer, Sussex Partners

Mr. Neumann is Chief Investment Officer at Sussex Partners.

Prior to Sussex, Mr. Neumann was Founder & Managing Partner of BN Capital, a structured credit alternative asset manager. As part of that effort Mr. Neumann was also a Board Member, Head of Capital Markets, and Principal at Vendor Assistance Program, a FinTech firm providing funding to vendors getting paid late by US government entities (beginning with Illinois).

Mr. Neumann ran North Fork Capital, a hedge fund advisory firm after leaving Ramius Capital. At Ramius, Mr. Neumann was Managing Director and Co-Head of Investments at Ramius Alternative Solutions LLC, which began as a joint venture between Ramius Capital Group and Unicredit / Hypovereinsbank (HVB). At Ramius he served on the Investment Management Committee and was also responsible for underlying manager selection, due diligence, and portfolio and risk management activities. Additionally, Mr. Neumann was responsible for major institutional client relationships including a $1 Billion co-managed fund with Unicredit / HVB.

Prior to the joint partnership, he was Managing Director, CEO and CIO at HVB Alternative Advisors with similar duties, working on both the buy and sell sides of the securities industry for fifteen years, primarily in fixed income trading / portfolio management. Prior to HVB Mr. Neumann, was a Portfolio Manager and Trader for Aubrey G. Lanston & Co. for six years, prior to which he was Vice President at BNY Mellon for six years. Mr. Neumann holds a B.S. from Providence College, Rhode Island, and an M.B.A in Finance from Fordham University, New York.

 

Jon Stein

Speaker: Jon Stein, Managing Partner, Kettera Strategies

Jon Stein serves as a Managing Partner and as the Chief Executive Officer of Kettera Strategies.  He has 30 years’ of experience in the investment industry. He previously served as a Managing Director of Astor Janssen Holdings LLC. Prior to Astor Janssen, Mr. Stein was a Managing Director and partner with Parker Global Strategies, in charge of new portfolios and products, with an emphasis on foreign exchange traders and natural resources managers, and was a member of the investment, implementation and portfolio committees. 

From July 2005 through October 2007 Mr. Stein was the Co-CIO of and partner in AlphaMetrix Investment Advisors, an alternative investments manager platform headquartered in Chicago.  Mr. Stein was previously the Chief Strategic Officer of Efficient Capital Management, a fund-of-funds and manager-of-managers based in suburban Chicago, and also served as the Chairman of the firm’s Investment and Allocation Committee.  Before Efficient Capital Management, he was a director with Rotella Capital Management, a trading advisory firm.

After being trained to make markets in options and futures in 1987-1988, Mr. Stein turned to financial journalism, serving as the Senior Editor with Futures Magazine from 1988 through 1990. During his law studies, Mr. Stein served as a consultant to various industry firms and authored a text on foreign exchange trading, Trading Currency Cross Rates, published by John Wiley & Sons in 1993. Mr. Stein practiced law with two law firms in Chicago, including Katten Muchin & Zavis, specializing in the formation of hedge funds, futures funds, and trading businesses as well as related litigation. Mr. Stein is also a founding partner, and on the advisory board, of a Chicago-based fintech firm, AlphaTech Solutions LLC, and is a registered AP of Kettera Strategies.

Mr. Stein earned his JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1993, and a BS in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1986.

 

Markian Zyga

Speaker: Markian Zyga, Co-Chief Investment Officer, Mission Crest Capital Management

Markian is the co-chief investment officer of Mission Crest, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lighthouse Investment Partners, LLC. Markian is responsible for overseeing portfolio construction, capital allocations, risk management, and sourcing efforts for the Mission Crest Macro Fund. Markian is also a managing director at Lighthouse with a focus on quantitative and macro strategies. He is the chairman of the Quantitative/Macro Committee and a member of the Investment Research Committee and the Equity Committee at Lighthouse. Previously, Markian attended Loyola University Chicago, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Economics. Markian is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.
